This course has been designed to help participants make practical sense of the many complex economic terms, concepts and trends in the world today. Delivered over two days, the course objective is to understand what many of the major economic indicators measure and how they are interpreted by financial markets. The program of study will cover areas such as: mainstream and alternative measures of employment, economic output and growth; fiscal policy and the impacts of government stimulus; measures of inflation and the reasons policy makers fear it; monetary policy and the role of central banks; and foreign exchange, trade, investment flows and the balance of payments.
